Five interesting things about me

I was thinking what five interesting things about myself I could tell you while I was at work. I deliver to grocery stores so I drive a truck with my dog along for the ride. I get up at 1:00 am for this. Everyday is Bring Your Dog to work day. I hate beets. Always have. Can’t stand looking at them. Blech! They are so nutritious but I can’t. I want to retire to Ecuador where it’s warm year round. The cost of living will allow me to live better than in the US. And it will be an adventure. […]

Giving up SUGAR!

Like everyone else, I was addicted to sugar. Sugar is so addicting. The only way to kick the addiction is to go cold turkey. It took a few days and I struggled. After that, I didn’t miss it. I still don’t. A beautiful cannolli didn’t look appetizing today. I drank straight tea with no sugar and it tasted great. I lived in Texas for 27 years so I have drank a ton of sweet tea. But I’ll take my tea straight up with no sugar. I walked past the Girl Scouts and their cookies and said “No, Thank You.” I […]

What I learned from 23andMe

Over a year ago, I submitted my saliva spit to 23andMe to be informed of my health risks. It was a long wait for the results since I took advantage of the price drop to $99. When I got my results, I was not surprised really. I have a chance for Parkinson’s Disease which is understandable since my mother has Parkinson’s and so did a great grandfather. I also have a risk for heart disease. Really? Well, I guess that means my extra weight needs to go and now. I feel good about knowing my genetics in regards to my health. […]

Lacey Keyhole Scarf

I took Stefanie Japel’s Knit Lab Class on Craftsy and finished the Lacey Keyhole Scarf. It is a great class. I learned lace techniques with this scarf which I can’t wait to do more lace. I used Loops & Threads Impeccable Ombre in Seaside. The yarn is a Michael’s brand. The Seaside Ombre has Seahawk colors so I can wear it on Fridays during football season. I am on Ravelry as dolphinlady. Friend me.

How I Doubled My Family in One Google Search

I grew up only knowing my father’s family and mostly from a distance. His family was in New York and we were nomadic on the east coast. I knew no one from my mother’s family from Iowa. She would mention only bits and pieces and sometimes the story would change. So I grew up with a big hole. I have not kept in touch with either of my parents. It is a long and painful story. My life has been without the closeness of family and I have done everything by myself except for brief marriages. On January 15th, I […]

New Confidence in My Knitting

I had put several kntting classes from Craftsy.com on my wishlist. Seeing all the beautiful knitted garments on Pinterest.com, it just killed me that I didn’t knit well. I taught myself to knit from a book eons ago as a child but I never felt very comfortable and knitted very slowly. My tension was always too tight, so tight I couldn’t get the needle under the loop to make a stitch. I just couldn’t get the tension right and holding the yarn in my fingers was just so awkward. So no knitting. It just wasn’t my thing. So I finally signed […]

A Very Pink Scarf

This is the pink scarf I am knooking with ribbon yarn for the little 4 year old across the street. I wanted to make something girly and I have no young girls in my life right now. But the neighbor girl is adorable. I hope she loves it. I haven’t decided yet whether to knit a matching hat. I am using a yarn from Michael’s yarn line Loops & Threads called Flaunt. On the right side of the photo, you can see the yarn is flat with  a thread that runs along the one edge. That is what you  use to pick […]
